Art Administration & Accessibility Work
Art Administration
With much of my administrative background cultivated on an artist-run centre’s operational Board of Directors, I carry a strong knowledge of the priorities and challenges of arts organizations. Many of the administrative roles I have held are in highly collaborative environments and centre emergent practices, community-building, low-barrier education, and fulsome outreach in their undertakings.
Programming
I have experience as a programmer in DIY spaces, artist-run centres, and a non-profit municipal arts council. Much of this work is informed by and matched with my training in art history and curatorial studies. As a programmer who is interested in the role of artist-curator, I take a strong interest in galleries that advance artist governance and collaborate, or are led by, Indigenous governance and principals. On a smaller scale, I have worked with a number of artists and networks, including disability arts groups, artist activists, and anti-psychiatry arts collectives on program development. My background in programming began with working at a specialty art book shop and artist book festivals. I still carry the publication launches, libraries, and gallery publication initiatives as a priority in my work. My experience in promotions, communications, community-building, accessibility, and event strategy lend well to all things programming.
Grant Writing
I have worked with several artist-run centres to ideate, draft, substantively edit, copy-edit, and report grants— often with a focus on accessibility and low-barrier programming. With three years of experience working on the grant writing committee for Forest City Gallery, I have experience writing grant narratives across the diverse disciplines that the centre supports including literary, music, visual arts, community-driven arts, and media arts. With dedicated half a decade of experience in grant writing, I have an insightful working knowledge of both community foundations and municipal, provincal, and federal arts councils. I have a strong record of sucess securing accessibility-related funding at all levels (federal, provincial, municipal, foundation etc.) and have experience obtaining access support funds for individual applicants and writing organizational partnership agreements.
Committee Service
I have a strong capacity for committee work, in various formats and assembled to address diverse needs of organizations, academia, and research councils. My committee service ranges from lived-experience research creation advisory committees for graduate students, working committees on operational Board of Directors including Executive Committees, to advisory committees to address a strategic area. From my robust committee experience I have a demonstrated background working collaboratively towards maintaining operations, realizing projects, and reaching strategic goals.
Accessibility Strategic Planning
Through my governance and committee service, I have developed a formidable ability to translate grassroots disabilty advocacy and activism into strategic priorities for organizations seeking to accessibilize their spaces, programs, and workplaces to surpass legal minimums. In this work, I specialize in serving the GLAM sector, non-profits, and universities. I have delivered elect accessibilty feedback to Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (2024, 2025), Grunt Gallery (2024), Artspace (2024), and Creative Connector (2025) in consulting and working group contexts.
Non-profit Administration
I have a great capacity for communications, outreach, membership development, programming, grant writing, policy development, and human resources such as, delivering performance reports, recruiting, hiring decisions, and leading equity evaluations related to disabled communities, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and individuals with imbricating experiences with poverty.
Alt-text Writing
For over six years I have maintained an alt-text writing practice working with artists to describe their art and themselves. I have also worked with organizations to ensure digital access to their promotional materials through image, object, personage, and spacial description generation and strategy including the most notable, Tangled Gallery and the Green Party of Canada. My alt-text work has been published by projects like alttextselfies.net (along with the print equivilent) and featured on Post-Internet Literature: Alt-Text by Olivia Dreisinger. With a background in disability arts and art history, I bring a strong and efficient approach to all of my description work. I have participated in several Alt Text as Poetry workshops and draw from this method often.
